Diploma graduates in Malaysia have a narrower but real scholarship market compared to SPM and STPM leavers. The key distinction is that most major government scholarships (JPA overseas, Khazanah full scholarship) are designed around school leavers entering their first degree — they are not structured for students who have already completed a diploma. However, there are meaningful pathways. MARA has historically offered degree continuation grants for bumiputera diploma graduates, particularly for those from polytechnics and community colleges (politeknik and kolej komuniti). Several state foundations — Yayasan Selangor, Yayasan Negeri Sembilan, and others — offer top-up awards for continuing students. Some corporate scholarships are explicitly open to applicants who are currently in their diploma final year or have recently completed one. Banks including Maybank, CIMB, and RHB have run scholarship programmes at various times that accept diploma-to-degree candidates. It is also worth checking directly with your intended university — many Malaysian universities offer internal scholarships and tuition waivers specifically for high-achieving diploma students transferring into their degree programmes through credit exemption.
