Many Malaysian students assume that scholarship opportunities are only available before you enter university — at the SPM or STPM stage. This is not accurate. A meaningful number of scholarships and financial awards are accessible to students who are already enrolled in public universities (IPTA). Most Malaysian public universities have internal merit-based scholarships administered through their respective Pusat Pelajar or Bursary offices — these are often underapplied because students are not aware they exist. The University of Malaya, UPM, UKM, UiTM, and UTM all have university-administered financial assistance funds alongside the standard PTPTN arrangement. External organisations also run scholarships specifically open to current undergraduate students: several Yayasan foundations accept applications from students in their first or second year of study at any IPTA. A number of corporate scholarships — particularly at GLCs and banks — are structured as annual awards for current students with strong CGPA rather than only entry scholarships. The JPA Top Student Incentive (Skim Biasiswa Kecil Persekutuan) also has variants accessible to IPTA students meeting performance thresholds. The key difference versus pre-university scholarships: most of these require a minimum CGPA (typically 3.5 or above) and are awarded competitively each semester or year. MyScholar filters specifically for scholarships open to students currently enrolled.
