Physiotherapy in Malaysia is regulated under the Allied Health Professions Act 2016, with registration managed by the Malaysian Physiotherapy Association (MPT) under the Allied Health Professions Regulation. To practise, you need a recognised Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree — offered at UM, UPM, UTM, UiTM, and several private universities including AIMST and KPJ Healthcare University College. The programme typically takes four years and includes significant clinical placement hours in hospital settings. After graduation, physiotherapists complete a one-year internship in a government or accredited private hospital before applying for full MPT registration. Employment settings include government hospitals (MOH), private hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports facilities, and increasingly home-care services. Stroke rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injury treatment, paediatric physiotherapy, and sports rehabilitation are common specialisation tracks. Government physiotherapists start at around RM 2,300–2,800 per month. Senior physiotherapists in private hospitals or running their own clinic typically earn considerably more. International demand — particularly from Australia, UK, and the Middle East — is strong for Malaysian-trained physiotherapists.
