Quantity surveying (QS) is one of Malaysia's most steadily in-demand built environment professions. QS professionals manage construction costs, prepare bills of quantities, handle contract administration, and ensure projects are delivered within budget. It is a regulated profession governed by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) — to use the title 'Registered Quantity Surveyor' you must hold a BQSM-recognised degree and complete a period of supervised professional experience before sitting the BQSM Assessment. Universities offering recognised QS programmes include UTM, UiTM, UTAR, Lincoln University College, and Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) is the professional body for networking and career development. QS professionals work for consulting firms (QS consultancies), contractors (as project QS), developers, and government bodies including JKR (Public Works Department). Graduate QS roles start at around RM 2,500–3,200. Registered Quantity Surveyors with project experience earn RM 5,000–10,000. Senior or director-level QS professionals at large consultancies or developers earn more.
