Radiographers in Malaysia operate medical imaging equipment — X-ray, CT scan, MRI, and ultrasound machines — to help doctors diagnose injuries and diseases. It is a technical allied health profession that sits in high demand as Malaysia's healthcare infrastructure expands, particularly with the growth of private hospitals in Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru. To become a radiographer in Malaysia, you need a Bachelor of Radiography or Bachelor of Medical Imaging degree. Universities offering this programme include UiTM (one of the main feeders into KKM), UM, UPM, and several private institutions like MAHSA University, Lincoln University College, and International Medical University. The degree is typically four years. After graduating, you must register with the Malaysian Radiographers and Radiological Technologists Board (MRR) before you can practise. Most radiographers begin their careers in government hospitals under Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, which offers structured pay scales and career progression. Private hospital radiographers often earn more but with different working conditions. Starting salaries in government service for a fresh radiographer are approximately RM 2,800–3,500 per month. There is also a specialisation path into radiation therapy (treating cancer patients), nuclear medicine imaging, and sonography for those wanting to develop further.
