UKM and UiTM serve somewhat different scholarship ecosystems and the comparison is not as simple as 'which is better'. UiTM is Bumiputera-exclusive and the majority of MARA scholarships and loans are directed to MARA campuses and UiTM. This means if you are Bumiputera and your course is available at UiTM, you may have more targeted scholarship pathways — particularly MARA, Yayasan Negeri, and Bumiputera GLC programmes. UKM is a research university and has a broader international scholarship pipeline — Yayasan Khazanah awards, international exchange scholarships, and research-linked funding more frequently specify UKM as an eligible institution. For medical and health science students specifically, UKM's Pusat Perubatan UKM (PPUKM) has a strong internal scholarship record. For accounting, business, and IT, UiTM's large faculty size means more alumni networks that drive corporate scholarship pipelines. Neither is universally better — it depends heavily on your course and Bumiputera status. MyScholar lists scholarships by eligibility including Bumiputera-only filters.
